Thomas Wilmes – Website & Mail Server for an Engineering Firm
An engineering firm for wind energy doesn't need a template site — it needs a presence that makes the technology tangible, and infrastructure that runs as reliably as the turbines it monitors.

Rebuild for an engineering firm specialising in remote monitoring of wind turbines: a prerendered React website in German and English, 3D models with three.js, an interactive control-cabinet planner, a custom form service and a Mailcow mail server in the company's look.
Thomas Wilmes Ingenieurbüro builds and modernises the data connectivity of wind turbines regardless of manufacturer: database servers, live displays, mobile and fibre connections, direct marketing via EMSYS and the integration of shutdown systems. The old website ran on WordPress with GeneratePress, Elementor and an empty WooCommerce shop — hard to maintain, slow and without a clear structure for the seven service areas. Operators and direct marketers needed to understand faster what the firm actually does, in English too. On top of that came its own email infrastructure and a contact route that works without a database or third-party services.
We rebuilt the site from scratch: Vite, React 19 and TypeScript with React Router; every route is prerendered to finished HTML at build time and hydrated afterwards. No CMS, no PHP — the server delivers static files, and all copy lives typed in the code. The design takes its cues from the industry: a dark opening with video, a single orange accent from the company logo, monospace headlines and the three-blade rotor of the wordmark as a line drawing. The technology gets its own visuals: a wind turbine and a nacelle as real 3D models with three.js, illustrated scenes of the controllers in use and an interactive control-cabinet planner where visitors place and wire components in a cabinet — the plan can be kept in the browser if they wish. Plus five technical articles, everything in German and English, with dedicated titles, structured data and a sitemap per route. The contact form runs through a small custom Node service: spam protection via ALTCHA (proof of work instead of image puzzles), rate limiting, delivery via SMTP with mandatory TLS and DKIM — nothing is stored, and the logs contain no addresses. Website, form service and a Mailcow mail server run together on a dedicated, hardened server with Coolify. Webmail and login at mail.thomas-wilmes.de carry the company design, administration is locked from outside, and nightly updates keep the system, mail server and containers current.

The engineering firm now has a presence that fits its work: technically precise, fast and clear in German and English alike. The seven services are clearly structured, 3D models and the cabinet planner show what usually stays hidden in the tower base, and enquiries arrive through a form without tracking services. With its own mail server, locked-down administration and automatic updates, the entire infrastructure is in one hand — without WordPress maintenance and without depending on a site builder.
